Published on December 15, 2019, Hon Simon Mbugua, a humble EALA MP, has been instrumental in Governor Mike Sonko's rise to power.

As the main thinktank and pillar of strength behind the governor, Mbugua has been a key player in Sonko's success, even going to the extent of bailing him out with Ksh 15 million after a court release.

According to sources, Mbugua's support to Sonko during the 2017 gubernatorial campaigns was instrumental in his win, particularly among the Kikuyu leaders and community.

As the chief financier of Sonko's campaign, Mbugua's influence extended beyond financial support, with him having to assert his influence in the secret Kikuyu billionaires' clubs to whip politicians into supporting Sonko.

With an estimated worth of billions, Mbugua's assets are spread across the country, including high-end estates in Nairobi, Mombasa, and across borders into Dubai and Singapore.

As a guarantor of business deals that would come out of the support to Sonko's Governorship bid, Mbugua's involvement in county tenders and contracts is a testament to his commitment to fulfilling pledges made during the campaign.

Speculation is rife that Mbugua could come out of the boardroom to rescue Nairobi after Sonko's arrest and likely ouster, but for now, he has kept his cards close to his chest, waiting for the opportune time to join the fray.
