Chelsea's chances of sealing a top four finish in the Premier League have been boosted by the lifting of their transfer ban, according to Premier League legend Paul Merson.
Speaking to Starsport, as reported by Metro UK, Merson believes the west London side need to invest in their attackline and defence to achieve their goal.
Chelsea remain fourth in the table despite a recent slump in form, including a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on December 14.
However, Merson is confident that the right signings in January can propel the team to a top four finish.
He suggests that Chelsea should sign a centre forward to ease pressure on Tammy Abraham and replace Olivier Giroud, who is expected to leave the club after falling out of favour under Frank Lampard.
A new centre half will also provide more cover for Antonio Rudiger, who has been plagued with injuries in the first half of the season.
With the transfer ban lifted, Lampard now has the opportunity to add more depth to his squad, and Merson believes that the right signings can book Chelsea's ticket to a top four finish.
