On December 14, 2019, Bolivia's interim president Jeanine Anez announced plans to issue an arrest warrant against former president Evo Morales, who fled the country after nearly 14 years in power.
Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous president, lost military support during weeks of violence that followed the disputed elections in October 2019.
"An arrest warrant is going to be issued in the next few days", Anez told reporters, adding that Morales would be investigated for alleged crimes of sedition and terrorism.
According to Anez, if Morales returns to Bolivia, he "knows that he has to give answers to the country (since) he has counts pending under the law".
Morales initially received asylum in Mexico but later moved to Argentina, where he was given refuge by the new leftist government of President Alberto Fernandez.
