On December 11, 2019, Governor Mike Sonko was arrested and taken to court after failing to pay a Sh15 million bond. However, his lawyers had other plans.
According to reports, there was a plot to re-arrest Sonko after he was released on bond. But his lawyers were one step ahead.
Instead of taking him to court immediately after paying the bond, his team of lawyers waited until 8:30 pm when he was taken to the Kamiti prison on an ambulance.
He was later released and taken home by his family.
Senator Samson Cherargei, former MP Kipkelion Magerer Langat, and MP Kapseret Oscar Sudi were among those who accompanied Sonko to the court.
Sonko is facing charges of misusing county funds and embezzling Sh357 million through tenders.
His case will be mentioned on January 15, 2020.
