Published on December 15, 2019, a new song by Kenyan rapper King Kaka, born Kevin Ombima, has sparked a heated debate hours after its release.
The song, dubbed 'Wajinga Nyinyi', targets the Kenyan electorate for voting in leaders who are selfish, scandalous, and deceitful, leading to economic hardship.
King Kaka, 32, directly addresses voters, saying, 'Sisi ni vipofu na viziwi…na tunajua translator wetu alishadedi.2022 already si mnajua nani ni Prezzi… si mnajua nyinyi voters ni washenzi… So, unashangaa akili zenu time ya kura zinajaa shonde.'
He also criticizes the economy, saying, 'Welcome to our country where politicians wana ujinga za kila aina. Economy imekuwa hard hakuna kitu ya kuteremsha chai… I support teachers’ [and] doctors’ strikes.'
The song has garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube in just 10 hours, with many Kenyans on social media hailing King Kaka for speaking the truth.
However, King Kaka later announced that he was pulling down the song due to receiving threats, tweeting, '#WajingaNyinyi at this rate, I think I need protection. If worse comes to worse, mkuje police station.'
