Published on December 15, 2019, Kabras Sugar's unbeaten run in the Kenya Cup came to an end at the hands of Homeboyz, who beat them 20-17 in a round eight match at the Impala Club.
Despite the loss, Kabras remained on top of the 12-team standings with 35 points, one more than second-placed KCB, who beat Impala Saracens 15-5 at the KCB Sports Club.
Homeboyz, under the tutelage of South African coach Hector Jason, are third with 33 points.
Homeboyz took a commanding 13-3 lead at half-time, thanks to two penalties and a converted try by Maxwell Kang'eri, while Kabras were restricted to a solitary penalty by Fijian Jone Kubu.
The second half saw Kabras emerge strongly, scoring their first try through Kenyan international George Nyambua, but Homeboyz responded with a converted try by Abel Matanda.
Ntabeni Dukisa scored a late converted try for Kabras, but Homeboyz held on for their first win over the Kakamega side since 2017.
