Kenyan-born South Sudanese model Aweng Chuol has made history by marrying her gay partner, Alexis, in a private ceremony held on December 12th in New York.
Aweng, a law student and fashion model, shared the news of her marriage on social media, where she posted photos of the intimate ceremony attended by only two other people.
"Married my best friend today. I am. GEEKED," Aweng captioned the photos, expressing her joy and happiness.
Aweng, 21, was born in Kakuma refugee camp in Turkana, Kenya and moved to Sydney, Australia at the age of 7. She announced her engagement to Alexis late last month.
