Published on December 14, 2019, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Task Force findings have sparked a much-needed conversation about the future of Kenyan politics.

As we strive for national awareness, national ethos, and national unity, it is essential to recognize that the BBI initiative is not just about the team, but also about the individual.

The consultation process gave ordinary Kenyans a chance to contribute to the debate, putting the 'I' of the individual firmly in the process.

The BBI's focus on creating a transparent and representative system is designed to transform Kenyan democracy, empowering each Kenyan and strengthening the voice of the individual.

One of the key recommendations is to increase county resources by a massive 35 per cent, with a new formula to ensure fair distribution based on the number of people living in each area.

Transparency will be paramount, with parastatals under scrutiny to ensure they are run efficiently, and immediate reforms to address their unsustainable nature.

Devolution will also be adjusted to ensure gubernatorial candidate pairings consist of a male and female team, giving women a seat at the decision-making table.

The BBI seeks to limit arbitrary and corrupt recruitment in government, with the Public Service Commission playing an active role in every county to appoint Kenyans on merit.

A new patient's bill of rights will provide equal and fair quality of healthcare across all counties, and new oversight mechanisms will be introduced to deflate bloated county governments.
