As human beings, we are social creatures that thrive in communities governed by rules and codes of conduct. The law, in particular, is a vital institution that helps maintain social order and ensures that individuals behave in a manner that is beneficial to the collective.

So, why do most people obey the law? The answer lies in the benefits of obedience, which are self-evident, abundant, and mutual. Disobedience, on the other hand, often attracts painful punitive measures from the authorities.

Education plays a crucial role in shaping our understanding of the law and its importance in our society. Through education, we learn about the code of conduct that governs our behavior and strive to live by it. This is particularly evident in complex societies where the law serves as a guiding principle for individuals to follow.

As a species, humans have a unique capacity to understand and adhere to the law. Our brains are large enough to comprehend the importance of a code of conduct, and this awareness is spread across the globe, making the law a universal institution.
