On December 14, 2019, the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) hosted its second edition of sports day at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani. Nation Media Group (NMG) participated in the event, finishing fourth with 86 points out of 13 teams.

NMG had taken an early lead after winning the 4x100m race but struggled in the five-a-side football contest, which was won by Capital FM. The group also faced challenges in the egg and sack races but managed to finish second in the tug of war behind Metropol Television.

Media Max Network emerged as the overall winner with 104 points, claiming the title from Capital FM, who had won the event the previous year. Mt Kenya TV finished second with 100 points, while Switch TV secured the third position with 88 points.

The winners received prizes, with Media Max Network taking home Sh100,000, Mt Kenya TV bagging Sh60,000, and Switch TV receiving Sh40,000.

During the event, Sports Secretary Amina Mohammed participated in the egg race and emerged as the winner in the executives category. She expressed her enthusiasm for the event and promised that the ministry would participate in the next year's event.

"This is a healthy way of spending the afternoon. We will have a team from the ministry that will participate in next year's event as we want to be part and parcel of the process," said Mohammed.

Chris Mbaisi, the SJAK chairman, believes that the event can only get better. He emphasized the importance of the event in bringing journalists together and providing an opportunity for them to bond.

"This event is meant to bring the journalists together. We are used to covering sports disciplines and we really don’t get time to bond and such occasions give us a chance to do so," said Mbaisi.

Leon Kiptum, Betway's Kenya manager, expressed his appreciation for the event and the opportunity to support sports journalists. He looked forward to continuing their support in the future.

"This is a way of saying thank you to sports journalists who have gone out of their way to tell the stories the best way they know,” Leon Kiptum said. “We look forward to 2020. We hope to continue supporting sports in our own way.”
