Nyamira Woman Storms MCA's Wedding Claiming He is Her Husband

Residents of Matongo village in Nyamira County were treated to a dramatic scene on Friday, December 13, 2019, after a woman claiming to be the wife of the bridegroom stormed the ceremony at the Kerongo Catholic Church.

Janet Omwamba, who disrupted the event, arrived at the church and informed the priest that the groom, George Morara, was her husband and they had a 20-year-old son together.

According to Omwamba, she was alerted about the wedding by her child who learnt about it on social media, and she claimed she has a marriage certificate and the two solemnised their union 19 years ago.

She arrived accompanied by security officers and handed over a court order to the priest who was to officiate the wedding, citing that she was still legally married to Morara.

The announcement was followed by commotions as family members and friends of the MCA attempted to forcefully eject Omwamba from the church, but she stood her ground and refused to leave the venue.

George Morara, the ward representative for Kemera Ward, was set to exchange marriage vows with his lover Pamela Akinyi, but the ceremony was interrupted by Omwamba's dramatic entrance.

He then broke the news to the congregants, noting he could not proceed with the ceremony and walked out, citing that he had a court order that legally barred him from uniting the couple.

“I have a court order that legally bars me from uniting these two, I can not proceed and do something that I know is illegal,” said the priest before he left.

“Am really disappointed with what has happened here. I can’t talk now. I am really embarrassed,” Morara said.
