On December 14, 2019, Kenya's national sevens team, Shujaa, made a strong impression at the Cape Town Sevens, an event part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Shujaa's journey to the main cup quarter finals began with a 24-19 win against Samoa in their tournament opener match, led by Paul Feeney's charges.

However, it was their second Pool D match against Australia that showcased their true potential. Shujaa scored two converted tries against the Aussies, with Vincent Onyala's run at the center post in the fourth minute giving Kenya the lead, and Daniel Taabu converting to make it 07-00.

Australia replied in the seventh minute, but Shujaa's defence held strong, and they went into half-time with the score tied at 07-07.

Paul Feeney made five changes in the second half, bringing in key players Andrew Amonde, Jeffrey Oluoch, Nelson Oyoo, Dan Sikuta, and Alvin Otieno. Otieno's immediate impact saw him score Shujaa's second try of the day, and Taabu's conversion sealed the win at 14-07 in the eleventh minute.

Shujaa's composed defence ensured a 14-07 win at full time, securing their spot in the main cup quarter finals.

Kenya will face Ireland in their last Pool D match at 5:47 pm (EAT).
