On December 13, 2019, Julie Ertz was named US Soccer's female player of the year, an award she also won in 2017.

Her outstanding performance in the 2019 World Cup, where the US women's national team secured a historic victory, was a major factor in her selection for the award.

As the team's midfield anchor, Ertz ensured that the US did not concede more than one goal in any game during the tournament.

She also led the Chicago Red Stars to a second-place finish in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) standings and played a key role in the team's playoff run.

When accepting the award, Ertz expressed her gratitude to her teammates, saying, 'It's emotional to be recognised in this way and it's a cherry on top of a beautiful 2019. It's incredible.'

Her dedication and hard work on and off the field have made her a beloved figure in the soccer community, and her recognition as US Soccer's female player of the year is a testament to her outstanding achievements.
