On October 11, 2019, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi narrowly escaped death in a plane crash at Wilson Airport. The incident, which left her and one other person seriously injured, has left a lasting impact on her life.
According to Momanyi, she was uncomfortable boarding the plane, which was bound for Lam and carried 49 other passengers and five crew members. The Silverstone aircraft, registration number 5Y-IZO, suffered mechanical problems, resulting in the crash.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony at Nyakongo SDA Church, Momanyi revealed that in the height of the turbulence, she told God to take care of her children. "Amid the turbulence, I knew that was the last moment in my life," she said.
Despite the harrowing experience, Momanyi sustained injuries in her upper limbs, but thankfully, all other passengers were evacuated safely. The incident has been attributed to mechanical problems, with no fatalities reported.
Other notable attendees at the thanksgiving ceremony included Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, Bomachoge Borabu's Zadock Ogutu, and Kitutu Masaba parliamentary aspirant Victor Swanya.
