On December 14, 2019, a tragic incident unfolded in Homabay, Kenya, where a 33-year-old man, Tobias Oteno, took his own life during a public fight with his girlfriend.
According to reports, Oteno, a carpenter from Rodi Kopany, had recently reunited with his girlfriend and visited her at a food kiosk on the fateful day.
However, an argument ensued, resulting in a physical fight during which Oteno drew a knife and stabbed his girlfriend in the stomach at Rodi Kopany bus stop.
Witnesses claim that an angry crowd, outraged by Oteno's actions, threatened to take matters into their hands, prompting Oteno to stab himself repeatedly in the stomach.
Area Chief Fredrick Onyango stated that Oteno got scared when the crowd threatened to lynch him after stabbing his girlfriend.
"The man stabbed himself in the stomach repeatedly before he collapsed and died," said Onyango.
Investigations have been launched into the incident, and the body of the deceased has been moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.
