Since the beginning of the month, the Likoni Crossing Channel in Mombasa has been at the center of a disturbing trend. At least two weeks ago, several decomposing bodies were discovered, sparking concerns of possible suicide and murder cases.

According to reports, multiple cases have been reported at various police stations of people being murdered and thrown into the channel, or individuals who have committed suicide by leaping into the channel.

On December 9, a decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered after being washed ashore on the island of the Likoni channel. The remains were recovered by fishermen at Florida, near Mama Ngina Waterfront.

Witnesses reported that the corpse was found with a missing left arm, but the police attributed this to the body having stayed in the water for a long time.

Just a day before, a clearing and forwarding agent, John Mutinda, 46, died after driving into the Indian Ocean on the Channel. Mutinda allegedly committed suicide following marital issues.

On December 6, another body was found with a missing hand and left leg. The police were yet to identify the body of another man who committed suicide by jumping off a ferry.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and security of the Likoni Channel.
