On Friday, Modern Coast issued a statement regarding the refund process, which will begin on Monday, December 15, 2019. According to the statement, all affected passengers will be refunded via M-Pesa to the number quoted on their ticket.

Passengers who had thronged the Modern Coast offices along Accra road in Nairobi to demand an immediate refund of money paid for tickets expressed relief at the news. Elizabeth Aoko, a traveler, said, 'I have gone to their office, they have told us their refund will start on Monday.'

Another passenger, Evelyn Odero, expressed frustration, saying, 'Mimi ningependa pesa zangu nirudishiwe sijui ni lini watarudi kazini' (I want my money refunded, I don't know when they will return to work).

The NTSA suspended Modern Coast's operating license following fatal crashes this week, including a collision between two Modern Coast buses that left 7 people dead and 62 others injured. The regulator has directed that all 88 of the company's buses be inspected afresh, with police on high alert for Modern Coast vehicles operating during the suspension period.

Additionally, all Modern Coast drivers are required to undertake a refresher driving course, and the company has been ordered to submit its internal safety policies and procedures for evaluation by the regulator.
