On Friday evening, a suspected case of food poisoning affected farm workers in Baringo, resulting in the deaths of two people.

According to Dr. Mary Panga, the Baringo County Executive Committee Member for Health, the victims succumbed to their illness while receiving treatment at Baringo Referral Hospital.

The case is currently under police investigation to determine the source of the poisoning.

Seventeen farm workers from Iltepes who had eaten githeri complained of stomach pains and vomiting, prompting them to be rushed to the hospital.

Some of the patients remain in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Initial reports indicate that the poisoning might have been caused by aflatoxin in the githeri consumed.

Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula stated that samples from the meal have been taken to the Government Chemist for further tests.
