On December 12, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta honored a Marsabit police officer, Jairus Mulumia, for his selfless act of volunteering to teach pupils mathematics at Forore Primary School.
According to reports, the school's teachers had failed to show up due to security concerns, leaving the pupils without a teacher to guide them in mathematics.
However, Mulumia, who is a trained teacher, took it upon himself to step in and teach the pupils, ensuring that they did not miss out on their education.
During the award ceremony, Mulumia was recognized by the police department for his dedication and commitment to his work, as well as his willingness to go above and beyond to help others.
It is worth noting that Mulumia was not the only one to be recognized for his selfless act. Peter Tabichi, a mathematics and physics teacher from Pech Primary School in Pwani Village, Nakuru County, was also honored for using 80% of his salary to support his students from poor backgrounds.
