Every year, the Queen faces a daunting task: finding the perfect gifts for her large family and staff. But with a reported 620 presents to buy, it's a challenge even the most seasoned shopper would struggle with.
According to a former aide, the Queen spends a staggering £30,000 on presents and cards every year, a figure that's sure to make even the most frugal among us wince.
But it's not just the cost that's impressive – it's also the personal touch the Queen brings to her gift-giving. In the lead-up to Christmas, she invites her loyal staff into one of the state rooms at Buckingham Palace, where she hands out wrapped gifts and wishes them a happy Christmas.
From maids and footmen to aides, all levels of employees are included in the sweet festivities, with everyone receiving a special present and a Christmas pudding. The puddings, which number around 1,500 each year, are paid for by the Queen through the Privy Purse.
It's a tradition that dates back to her father King George VI and her grandfather George V, and one that the Queen continues with dedication and generosity.
