On a fateful Saturday morning, Thomas Momanyi, a Bank of Africa guard, was making his way home after a long night shift. The incident occurred just a few meters from his work station on Karuna Road, near the intersection with Waiyaki Way.
A car, driven by a young man with a female companion on the passenger seat, was making a turn onto Karuna Road when it lost control and hit Momanyi, who was walking on the kerb. The car ended up on the ditch along the St Mark's Church fence, right across from the Lion Place gate.
According to a witness, who requested anonymity, the accident occurred around 6:30 am. The witness stated, 'It was around 6:30 am when Thomas Momanyi was leaving work when the car that was turning onto Karuna Road in high speed, cut the corner and couldn’t brake fast enough and they lost control and hit Thomas who was walking on the kerb and landed on the ditch.'
Thomas's colleague, who works for G4S, quickly sprang into action and ensured their colleague was rushed to Medanta for medical attention. He was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.
Police from Spring Valley arrived at the scene and towed the car to the police station. The traffic police officer, identified as Mugambi, was headed to Kenyatta to record a statement with Momanyi, who is currently receiving treatment.
