Arrest and Charges

On December 10, 2019, Yassin Ahmed Osman, a Somali national, was arrested at a rented apartment in Pangani, Nairobi, after members of the public tipped off Sergeant Rashid Mohamed about the presence of fake money inside the house.

Osman was found in possession of fake US dollar currency in $100 denominations, amounting to $15.6 million. He was arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts on December 11, 2019.

The accused was charged with two counts: being in possession of fake cash and being unlawfully present in Kenya. Osman denied the charges.

Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithiji freed Osman on a Ksh 1 million bond with a surety of similar amount. The case is scheduled for hearing on April 2020.
