Kenya: Ghanaian Hockey Side in Kenya for Friendlies ¶
Exchequers, the Ghana Hockey Association League men's champions, arrived in Kenya on Thursday for a series of test matches against local teams.
The West Africans will play against Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier leagues sides, including Wazalendo, Parkroad, Greensharks, and the national team.
Exchequers boasts two internationals, Elikem Akaba (Belgium) and John Botsio (Italy), and will play against Greensharks on Sunday at 3pm, followed by a match against the national team on Monday at 4pm.
League runners-up Wazalendo will welcome Exchequers on Wednesday at 3pm, while the visitors will play against Parkroad on Thursday at 4pm.
Exchequers coach Richmond Attipoe said they chose to play friendly matches with Kenyan sides due to the high standards they pose.
"As much as we are here for the friendlies, we just want to have fun and enjoy ourselves, but at the same time, perfect our playing departments. Kenya clubs and more so the national team play well and if we can learn a thing or two, then we will leave this place better than we came," said Attipoe.
Attipoe hinted at inviting the East Africans to Ghana next year, while Kenya Hockey Union Deputy Match and Fixtures Secretary Moses Majiwa welcomed the presence of the Ghanaian club, saying such arrangements will make African events more competitive and the sport to grow.
