On December 14, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a stern warning to public officers engaging in private practice while in office, citing conflict of interest.

Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang, who is also the Chair of the Senate Public Accounts Committee, has thrown his weight behind the President's call.

According to Kajwang, it is not right for persons who have the power to amend the law to represent others as lawyers or even chair committees of sectors where their private business operates.

He argued that elected leaders should maintain their oversight role on the counties and not take sides when legal matters concerning counties are discussed.

Senator Kajwang's sentiments were echoed by Nyatike MP Tom Odege, who insisted that such actions would only contribute to watering down the role of the senate and further entrench graft.
