On December 10, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded on a Dandora-bound Public Service Vehicle when a group of masked passengers turned against the crew and passengers, leading to a violent confrontation.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspects, including a 20-year-old youth from Dandora, boarded the matatu at a stage and pretended to be passengers. However, once inside, they turned against the crew and passengers, drawing a pistol and demanding cash from the driver.

The conductor attempted to wrestle the accused in an attempt to rescue his passengers, but the accomplices, who were armed with knives, joined in and bundled the conductor out of the matatu, robbing him of his phone and cash.

Police officers on patrol emerged to rescue the victims, and in the ensuing chaos, one of the accomplices was shot dead. The accused was later arrested, and a knife was recovered from the suspects.

The accused has been charged with robbery with violence contrary to Section 295 as read with section 296 of the Penal Code and handling stolen property contrary to Section 322 of the Penal Code.

On December 11, 2019, the accused was released on a bond of Ksh 1 million with a surety of similar amount by Makadara Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate, Angelo Kithinji.

The case is scheduled for hearing on April 15, 2020, with a mention scheduled for December 30, 2019.
