Kalonzo's Dilemma: Balancing Ruto and Raila's Advances

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama's surprise announcement that he supports Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid has sent shockwaves in Ukambani, leaving Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka with a difficult decision to make.

Speaking to Musyii FM, Muthama revealed that he plans to bring Kalonzo and Ruto to the negotiation table, citing the Kamba community's desire to move away from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga.

Our political chapter with ODM leader Raila Odinga is closed. We will negotiate with Ruto, Musalia (Musalia) and Moses (Wetangula),” Muthama said.

However, Kalonzo's response to Muthama's statement has raised eyebrows, with the former Vice President taking to social media to deny any plans to work with Ruto, citing a need to avoid sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But is Kalonzo's silence on the matter not a sign of weakness? The Wiper Leader has a history of making embarrassing statements, including announcing Kenyan rapper Prezzo Makali as its flag bearer in the Kibra by-elections.

As things stand, Kalonzo needs Ruto more than the DP needs him. The Wiper party still has a few loyal MPs and a potential future leader in Mutula Kilonzo Junior. But if Kalonzo doesn't make a choice, he risks losing these assets.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is struggling to consolidate his Mt Kenya backyard. How will he help Kalonzo in this delicate situation?
