Bandari Dominates National Swimming Championships

On October 25, 2014, the Oshwal Academy pool in Mombasa, Kenya, played host to the National Age group and Open Swimming gala, where Bandari swimmers made a resounding statement by dominating most of the races.

Coached by former national swimmer Fakry Mansoor, the Bandari club excelled in both individual and relay events, inching closer to title defence.

Stephen Ndegwa, Rushab Shah, Shiven Bechra, and Kunaal Khagram of Bandari won the boys' 16 years and over 200m freestyle relays in 1:46.17, while Catherine Mason, Riva Karia, Kimberly Nyawira, and Saloni Patel secured an undefeated win in the girls' 16 years and over 200m freestyle relays with a time of 2:03.71.

Individual winners included Zikra Jaffer (Blue Ocean) in the girls' 10-11 years 50m backstroke with a time of 37.07, Tugi Mwige of Mombasa Aquatic in the girls' 12-13 years 50m backstroke with 36.02, and Gakenia Mwige of Mombasa Aquatic in the girls' 14-15 years 50m backstroke with 33.50.

Other notable winners included Catherine Mason of Bandari in the girls' 16 years and over 50m backstroke with 34.65, Yannick Kamphuis from Seahorses Club in the boys' 10-11 years 50m backstroke with 38.03, Ivan Hart from Mombasa Aquatic in the boys' 12-13 years 50m backstroke with 32.21, and Aryen Muravvej and Kunaal Khagram of Bandari in the boys' 14-15 and 16 years and over 50m backstroke with 31.07 and 29.45 minutes respectively.

Bandari's Duini Caffini won the girls 10-11 years 100m breaststroke in 1:29.93, while Blue Ocean's Maria Bianchi won the girls' 12-13 years 100m breaststroke in 1:23.86. Tory Pragassa of Seahorses won the boys' 16 years and over 100m breaststroke in 1:06.44.

Other notable winners included Jasmin Kimani from Otters club in the 200m individual medley with 2:42.21 and Siegfred Katumwa from Bandari in the boys' 16 years and over 200m individual medley.

Finally, Riva Karia of Bandari won the girls' 16 years and over 50m freestyle in 30.28, while Cian Omondi from Makini Schools Sports Academy won the boys' 16 years and over 50m freestyle.
