Published on December 14, 2019, a proposed alliance between Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sparked a political storm ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama's claims of a potential alliance between DP Ruto and Mr Musyoka have been met with denial by the Wiper leader, who warned that it could jeopardise his relationship with President Kenyatta.
Mr Muthama accused President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga of using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to stifle Mr Musyoka's 2022 chances, claiming that the DP and Mr Musyoka were in a similar political predicament.
However, Mr Musyoka refuted the claims, stating that discussions about a possible political alliance with the DP were a malicious attempt to drive a wedge between him and the President.
Wiper Party Secretary-General Judith Sijeny said that Mr Muthama's views were personal and that the party had not taken any position regarding which parties or leaders to engage towards 2022.
Despite the denials, the proposed alliance has sparked debate within and outside the Wiper Party, with some critics accusing Mr Musyoka of pretending to disown Muthama after the message was delivered.
