On December 8, 2019, musician Gilad Millo shared an emotional post on his Instagram page as he bid farewell to his firstborn son, Omer, who was joining the Israeli Defence Force.
Gilad praised his son for making the brave decision to serve his country and its people, saying he was proud of Omer's choice to be a real Israeli and serve as a lone soldier.
Sharing pictures of the emotional farewell, Gilad wrote, 'I hugged you this morning for as long as I could until it was time to let you go. How can a father possibly be prouder? My son, my boy, my first born, my pride, my Omer sending you off today to join the Israel Defence Force, as a Paratrooper?? knowing that tomorrow Mom & I are on a plane back to Kenya, was one of the more difficult moments we’ve known since you came into this world a little over 20 years ago.'
Gilad, a former Israeli Diplomat, also expressed his gratitude to God for protecting and keeping Omer healthy, safe, happy, and strong.
As a musician, Gilad has released several hit songs, including 'Unajua' with Wendy Kimani and 'Sema Milele', which has become Kenya’s favourite unofficial wedding song.
