The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) committee's extension and expansion are a clear indication of the urgency to implement its proposals aimed at redefining Kenya's governance architecture.

However, the team's implementation of its own report has raised pertinent concerns, with questions emerging about why the same team that delivered the report is presiding over its implementation.

When President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga launched the report at the end of last month, it was widely commended for setting the foundation for national rebirth and renewal.

However, critics have expressed the view that the report is underwhelming, with most of the proposals being commonplace and well elaborated in the Constitution, while others are mere administrative pronouncements.

The task force has suffered an image crisis, viewed by the political elite as a vehicle serving the interests of President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga.

With its term renewed, the task force has a chance to relook those issues that have elicited intense public debate and reach out to its critics to understand and incorporate their views.
