Kenya has been selected to host Africa's first satellite centre for the Global Tourism Resilience Management Centre (GTRMC) at Kenyatta University, marking a significant milestone in the country's tourism sector.
According to Jamaica's Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who visited Kenya last week, the discussions for the establishment of GTRMC in the country have already been concluded.
"I am very excited that we are close to opening the first satellite centre for the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management in Kenya," Bartlett said at a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart Najib Balala.
The centre will focus on regional issues and share information in real-time with the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre. It will also function as a think tank to develop possible solutions.
Mr. Balala noted that the agreement will be mutually beneficial to both nations, while GTRMC Executive Director Lloyd Waller emphasized that the establishment of the satellite centre will help create a global think tank connected through digital technologies.
On January 1, 2020, the second satellite centre is set to be launched in Kathmandu, Nepal, with several others planned for 2020.
