On December 13, 2019, Liverpool announced that manager Juergen Klopp had agreed to a contract extension until 2024.

Former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp took the reins at Liverpool in October 2015 and led the team to back-to-back Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019, securing their sixth European cup in the process.

"For me personally, this is a statement of intent, built on my knowledge of what we've achieved so far and what's still to come," Klopp said in a statement.

"When the call to manage Liverpool came in autumn 2015, I felt we were perfect for each other. Now, I feel I underestimated that," Klopp added.

"It's only with total belief in our partnership that I'm able to make this commitment to 2024," Klopp stated.

The club also announced that Klopp's assistants, Peter Krawietz and Pep Lijnders, had agreed to new deals.

Under Klopp's leadership, Liverpool finished a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League last season and are well-positioned to end their 30-year wait for a top-flight league title this season, with an eight-point lead over second-placed Leicester City.
