Introduction ¶
Published on December 13, 2019, the Infinix S5 boasts a 4-camera setup, which is a notable feature at its price point. In this review, we'll delve into the performance of these cameras in different lighting conditions and scenarios.
The Infinix S5's camera setup includes a 16MP main lens, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. While this may seem like a sophisticated setup, we'll examine whether it lives up to expectations.
Artificial Light ¶
Under artificial lighting, the Infinix S5's cameras produce impressive results. Colors are well-balanced, neither too saturated nor dull. However, upon closer inspection, the images lack detail, and a small shake can result in blurry photos.
Portraits ¶
Portrait mode is still a challenge for the Infinix S5, even in 2019. The device struggles to capture accurate representations, often blowing out highlights and smoothing out facial details. The selfie camera's portrait mode is somewhat better, but it still requires ample light and patience.
Macros and Close-Ups ¶
The dedicated macro camera mode is underwhelming, but the main camera's close-up shots are detailed and well-colored. The Infinix S5 excels in capturing close-up images, particularly of flowers and colored objects.
Normal and Landscapes ¶
When shooting in good light, the Infinix S5 can capture acceptable photos. However, the images lose detail when zoomed in, and the quality isn't on par with higher-end cameras. For everyday use, the photos are suitable for sharing with friends or on social media.
Ultra-Wide Shots ¶
The 5MP ultra-wide camera is a letdown, with washed-out colors, lack of detail, and insufficient light. A comparison with the main angle camera highlights the ultra-wide camera's shortcomings.
Selfie Test ¶
The 32MP selfie camera produces fair results, with minimal smoothing on normal AI mode. Beauty mode, however, takes it to the next level. The camera tends to pump up brightness, which may be a drawback for some users.
Augmented Reality Test ¶
The Infinix S5 features AR stickers, which may appeal to some users. However, the experience feels somewhat gimmicky.
Video Test ¶
The Infinix S5's video capabilities are limited to 1080p 30FPS, with no stabilization. The camera struggles to maintain focus, resulting in shaky footage.
Opinion ¶
While the Infinix S5's camera setup is impressive, there's room for improvement. The company should focus on enhancing detail, increasing video resolution, and incorporating Optical and Electronic Image Stabilization. A dedicated night mode and improved color science for the ultra-wide camera would also be welcome additions.
