Joseph Jowie Accuses Kenyan Authorities of Torture

Published on December 13, 2019

Joseph Jowie, a suspect in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, has accused Kenyan authorities of torture, alleging that he was beaten and mistreated in prison.

According to Jowie, he was given a blanket infested with bedbugs, snakes, and cockroaches, and was forced to sleep in a cell without proper ventilation.

He also alleged that a prison officer, identified as Lekulal, gave him a hot meal and then threatened to throw him into a cell with other prisoners.

Jowie's lawyer told the court that his client was being subjected to inhumane treatment and that he needed protection from the authorities.

Julius Irungu, Jowie's father, said that he and his wife visited Jowie in prison but were told that he was no longer there. They later found out that Jowie had been transferred to Manyani Prison, where he was being held with other hardened criminals.

Manyani Prison has a reputation for being one of the toughest prisons in Kenya, with many prisoners being held in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

Jowie's case has sparked outrage, with many calling for an investigation into the allegations of torture.
