On Thursday, police in Kirinyaga County picked up a scrap metal dealer for questioning after she stumbled upon a colonial-era bomb in Kagumo village.

According to Daniel Ndege, Kirinyaga Central's Deputy County Commissioner, the woman is being held at Kerugoya Police Station to shed light on how she found the deadly weapon.

"The government wants to establish the source of the device believed to have been abandoned by colonialists many years ago," Ndege said.

Ballistic experts from Nyeri County detonated the live bomb, which the woman had bought as scrap metal from a young man in Kagumo village.

She had suspected it was a bomb when she noticed its strange appearance while taking the items out of her gunny bag, prompting her to flee to a nearby police post and alert officers.
