Published on December 13, 2019, a disturbing video has emerged online showing a man washing fruits with filthy water in a Nairobi trench.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the man busy washing the fruits as pedestrians walk by, seemingly oblivious to the unsanitary conditions.
What is even more startling is that after washing his fruits 'clean' and carefully placing them by the roadside, the man then proceeds to wash his feet and sandals with the very same trench water.
Many Kenyans have expressed shock and disgust at the video, with some even admitting to having bought fruits along the same road and eaten them without washing them.
Some have speculated that the man is a hawker who has been seen washing vegetables and fruits in dirty trenches along city roads in the past.
Others have dismissed him as either a street boy or a mad man.
"I think he's a street boy who's just eating the fruits, not selling them, let's not blame hawkers," Saloome SOSO commented.
"Let's not ignore this, people are dying left and right because of this," KT 9 said.
"I should be dead by now," Great Ngugi commented.
"No wonder people are ill left and right," terry trizah said.
"Maybe he's just taking advantage of the current water rationing in the city," Festus Chuma commented.
