On December 12, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko engaged with his supporters for the first time since being released on bail.
As is his custom, Sonko addressed his followers online, thanking his family and those who stood by him during his time in custody.
He also provided an update on his health, stating that he was continuing treatment at home.
“Fellow Nairobians, the last few days have been a bit difficult,” Sonko said.
Despite being barred from setting foot in his office, Sonko reassured his supporters that he was still in charge and still calling the shots.
“Why are you guys writing about a crisis at City Hall? There is one thing you don’t understand; that is I am still the governor and I still call the shots because the magistrate did not say that I have to step down,” he said.
On December 6, 2019, Sonko was arrested in Voi after a manhunt was launched by the DPP and EACC offices.
