Published on December 13, 2019, two men have lost their lives in Naivasha due to the ongoing floods in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of youths were swimming in the flooded River Malewa near Olmagogo area when one of them was swept away by the gushing waters.
"The youths were swimming from one end to the other and in the process, one of them was swept by the waters and his body is yet to be recovered," said Jane Wambui, a witness to the incident.
Efforts by his colleagues to rescue the youth were fruitless before police were informed about the incident.
Separately, a 29-year-old man died after jumping into a flooded dam in Mununga village following a quarrel with his mother.
"Information coming from the mother is that the victim got angry after he was barred from selling the family's only cow," said James Mwaniki, an elder in the village.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed both incidents, stating that one body had been recovered while the search for the second one was ongoing.
