On December 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested in Voi, sparking a dramatic scene that has left many wondering about the woman by his side.
According to Uhondo News, the mystery woman was none other than University of Nairobi student leader Anne Mwangi Mvurya.
As seen in a video circulating online, Mvurya was frantic as the governor fought off officers trying to handcuff him. She was standing behind officers in a blue hood, white and black blouse, and a cap.
According to the Nairobian, Mvurya is romantically involved with the governor, who is believed to have funded her campaign.
When asked about her relationship with the governor, Mvurya declined to answer and instead asked that police be "human" during arrests.
"…The manner in which he was arrested was not the best. I do not understand why he was assaulted while being arrested," she told the weekly publication.
It's worth noting that Mvurya has been spotted with Sonko on several occasions, including at his private office in Upper Hill.
