French midfielder Franck Ribery, 36, suffered serious ligament damage to his right ankle in a clash with Lecce's Panagiotis Tachtsidis on November 30.

According to his club Fiorentina, Ribery will undergo surgery to stabilize the joint, a procedure that will be performed in the next few hours.

After the surgery, the team will announce the expected time for Ribery to resume competitive activity.

Italian media have speculated that the former Bayern Munich star may be sidelined for two months, a period that could be crucial for Fiorentina's league campaign.

Fiorentina are currently struggling in 13th place, five points above the relegation zone, and have lost four consecutive matches.
