December 13, 2019 - Migori county service providers have been left in the dark, with thousands of shillings in arrears for services rendered to the county government. Instead of being paid, they claim that relatives and friends of senior officials are being selectively paid.
According to sources, Finance Chief Officer Samuel Omuga has allegedly taken instructions from Governor Okoth Obado to pay relatives and friends of senior employees, denying other service providers the opportunity to continue offering essential services to the county.
The service providers have accused senior employees of diverting funds meant to offset their dues, leaving them with unpaid arrears running into millions of shillings.
Residents have called for a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption and malpractices within the county government, citing the lavish spending in hotels by a few disgruntled elements.
Furthermore, sub-county daily collections are no longer being remitted to banks, with senior employees allegedly colluding to divert the collections to their personal use.
As the situation continues to unfold, some senior employees were spotted dining at a hotel with their girlfriends, ignoring the plight of junior employees who are struggling to bring a meal to their families.
Migori Governor Okoth Obado is facing a murder charge at a Nairobi court and is allegedly issuing instructions on who to be considered for payment, with some service providers claiming that they are not cooperative enough to cough out money to assist in the upkeep of his family members.
