On December 13, 2019, Google released its top trends of what Kenyans searched that year, revealing a somber fascination with death.

Among the most searched local personalities, a staggering half were related to death, with prominent fatalities including Bob Collymore, the former CEO of Safaricom, and John Demathew, a prominent businessman.

Other notable deaths that made the list included those of Tob Cohen, Joyce Laboso, Ken Okoth, and Ivy Wangechi, as well as global personalities like Robert Mugabe, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Nipsey Hussle.

According to Google's 2019 Year in Search, which showcases people, topics, events, and places that captured the world's attention that year, Kenyans were also curious about local personalities like Eliud Kipchoge, Governor Mike Sonko, Jonathan Moi, and Esther Arunga.
