On December 11, 2019, police in Kisii County discovered the body of Jessica Moraa, a woman who had been reported missing by her family. The body was found buried in a pit latrine at her home in Rioma, Marani, a few meters away from the family house.
According to reports, Jessica Moraa had disappeared on December 4, 2019, after waking up from her home in Nyamariba village in Marani Sub-County, Kisii. Her husband, George Moraa, and her co-wife were arrested in connection with her murder.
Police Commander Martin Kibet stated that the two suspects would be arraigned as soon as the investigations were concluded.
It is alleged that the suspects had tried to cover up the crime, but a suspect reportedly spilled the beans, leading to the discovery of the body.
Neighbours and relatives recalled hearing about a family fight on the morning that Moraa disappeared, and a close family member revealed that one of the suspects had tried to get police officers to arrest Moraa two weeks prior to her disappearance.
