Mombasa Importers Face Tax Evasion Charges

On December 11, 2019, Nabeel Hussain Qureshi and Salman Ahmed Rizvi, directors of Ameen Motors Limited, appeared before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Ednah Nyaloti.

They were charged with four counts of tax evasion for failing to pay Sh126 million in taxes between January 2013 and December 2018.

The two importers denied the charges and were released on a Sh20 million bond with surety, with the condition that they deposit their passports in court.

According to a report by the Kenya Revenue Authority, Ameen Motors Limited imported 599 units of motor vehicles worth Sh217 million between January 2013 and December 2018, and sold them for Sh658 million.
