Facebook's plans to integrate its messaging services have raised concerns among regulators, with the Federal Trade Commission (F.T.C.) weighing whether to seek a preliminary injunction against the social network.
According to sources, the F.T.C. has discussed how Facebook's integration of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger could make it harder to break up the company, particularly if the agency determines that the acquisitions of these apps reduced competition in social networking.
While the F.T.C. has not made a final decision, the agency is considering whether such an integration would be in the public interest, given the potential impact on competition and consumer choice.
Facebook and the F.T.C. have declined to comment on the matter, which was earlier reported by The Wall Street Journal.
