Uhuru Kenyatta Slams Wilson Sossion Over Dual Career ¶
On December 12, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly criticized Wilson Sossion, a nominated Member of Parliament, for holding dual careers as a teacher and a politician.
During the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, Uhuru Kenyatta stated that it is impossible for someone to be a teacher and a politician at the same time.
'You cannot be a teacher and a politician at the same time, you cannot serve as a Member of Parliament and still claim to be a teacher,' Uhuru Kenyatta said.
Uhuru Kenyatta's statement came after Sossion was appointed as a nominated Member of Parliament by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
However, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had earlier banned Sossion from teaching in any school after he was removed from the register of teachers.
The TSC had stated that Sossion's decision to join politics had made him biased towards one political party, which was not in line with the agreements he had made with the teachers.
Through a gazette notice on October 29, the TSC stated that Sossion's name had been removed from the register of teachers, and he was no longer eligible to teach in any school.
'TSC has removed the name of Wilson Sossion from the register of teachers. In law, Sossion is no longer eligible to teach in any school,' the TSC stated.
