On December 12, 2019, Governor Mike Sonko's team accused Somali cartels of orchestrating his arrest to take over operations in the Central Business District (CBD).

The bloggers alleged that the Somalis had been agitating for Sonko's arrest, with the aim of installing one of their own in his place.

Days prior to his arrest, Sonko had launched a fierce battle against ousted Majority leader in the Nairobi Assembly Hon Abdi Guyo and the EACC Director of Investigations, Mr Mohammed Mahamud, whom he accused of conniving to grab public land in South C.

Both Guyo and Mahamud are from the Somali community.

After Sonko's incarceration, the Somalis were reportedly jubilating and unleashed their camels to graze in the grass planted by taxpayers' money.

The Governor's allies decried the violence witnessed in the CBD in the recent days as being fronted by the impatient Somalis, who were eager to grab more land and take charge over the CBD.

They requested the government to quickly look into the matter, saying if it was not addressed well in time, it would soon explode and would be difficult to quell.
