On Thursday, Strathmore University bounced back from their previous loss to Rangers with a convincing 46-14 win over General Service Unit (GSU) in a Kenya Handball Federation National League match at Kaloleni grounds.
Strathmore captain Maxwell Munene attributed their previous loss to Rangers as a wake-up call, saying, "It's good we have won today. Moving forward we have no choice but to keep on winning to remain in contention for the title."
GSU captain Raphael Chege acknowledged that his team is still a work in progress, stating, "We are newcomers and we have since recorded one win. We are not in a good position but we have made remarkable improvement. While our defence has improved, our attack is still wanting."
Strathmore's win moved them joint top on 22 points with Black Mamba, while National Cereals and Produce Board occupy third position with 18 points from nine matches.
Simon Mutuku (14), Richard Momanyi (7), and Munene (7) were the top scorers for Strathmore, while Dominic Musau (4), Chege (3), and Nicholas Keter (2) were the best scorers for GSU.
Strathmore's fast breaks and GSU's struggles to find a rhythm contributed to the lopsided encounter, with GSU trailing 5-21 at halftime.
GSU continued to chase the game in the second half, but the gulf in class was palpable.
