On December 12, 2019, a police officer was arrested in Homa Bay County for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl over an eight-month period.
The police constable, based in Ndhiwa, started the alleged defilement in January 2019, when the girl sought protection at the station following a domestic dispute with her family.
According to reports, the officer allegedly locked the girl in a cell and would sneak her into his house every night, returning her in the morning.
The girl's widowed mother reported the matter to senior officers in September 2019, prompting investigations into the incident.
Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Commander Daniel Wachira confirmed the police constable's arrest and stated that the girl was held at the police station temporarily as one in need of protection.
