On Wednesday, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley visited the Michael Joseph Centre in Nairobi, where she was impressed by Kenya's fintech innovations.
During her tour, led by Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge, Mottley was introduced to various products showcased at the 'Silicon Savannah' exhibition, including the Safaricom-KCB M-Pesa platform, Kwara, Lami, M-KOPA Solar, Pula, Stawi, and Digifarm.
Notably, Safaricom's Chief Financial Services Officer, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, highlighted the company's achievement in bringing traditional financial services to 27 million people through mobile technology, revolutionizing financial inclusion.
"The lesson here is that we can never go wrong by focusing on our customers. It is this dedication and focus on our customers that has distinguished Safaricom and that endears us to our customers. Success comes from ensuring that those around you, those within your ecosystem also succeed," Lopokoiyit said.
Mottley also extended an invitation to Kenyan innovators to visit Barbados in early 2020 to share their ideas and experiences in the fintech arena.
Furthermore, Dr. Njoroge invited the Prime Minister to the Afro-Asia Fintech Festival, scheduled to take place in Kenya next year.
